Video game players have typically been derided as lzy who just sit around and move buttons on a controller all day. However, as new technologies continue to be created, players have increasingly been getting off their duff and game systems require physical coordination. Meanwhile, long tournaments require physical health. It appears that although people judge about gamers, they are more active each day.
While recent gaming systems are revolutionizing the way that gamers interact with the games, some videos requiring physical movement have been in existence for many years. These include party game favorites such as Dance Dance Revolution, in which players make dance routines on a pad.
Other videos in arcades included balancing maneuvers and motion, such as skateboarding simulations. There have also been basketball practice games and other sports related games. In addition, laser tag, an extension of video games and virtual reality, has been a mainstay of gamers. These arcade games were examples that physical ability combined with video games can be very fun and worthwhile, and they bridged the gap for the next evolution of advancement.
With the Nintendo Wii, these early beginnings of adding bodily motion into games have exploded into entirely novel approaches. Now the video game hand control is actually a movement capturing unit which allows you to act out a video game as if you were the character in the storyline. This can mean swinging an axe or leaping over an obstacle.
The strength of this technology has also led to the introduction of video games that are designed to promote fitness. The best example is Wii Fitness, which keeps track of your weight and your efforts as you perform multiple movements. These games appeal not only to video gamers, but to people from different backgrounds desiring to combine fun with fitness.
Another element of video games that has taken gamers off their butts has been video game tournaments. This might seem strange, after all long tournaments involve long periods of time sitting down and playing a game. However, these tournaments demand a great deal of physical and mentalendurance. This often requires gamers to train themselves for monster contests.
Between tournaments that demand physical stamina, toarcade games of the past and the Nintendo Wii, video games are incorporating more and more fitness and exercise elements. The slothful stereotype just doesn’t apply any longer. And video games, once the land of only intense gamers, now apply to an increasing demographic of people of all ages.
