For generations, the Heddon Torpedo series of lures has been in anglers’ tackleboxes. They are considered to be one of the most widely used of all surface baits. In fact, The Heddon Torpedo is the number one selling propeller-equipped topwater lure in the world, with over 13 million that have been sold so far.

For some anglers, the Torpedo is the only surface bass fishing lure that they bother to carry in their box. The Torpedo creates a wild splashing disturbance on top of the water that the fish cannot resist. Of all the torpedo lure reviews that I have read before buying a few myself, I have not found anyone that had anything bad to say about any of the Torpedos. Several even mention that on the first cast they get action with this lure. I have to say, it was the 2nd cast for me! Some folks stated that they only tie this lure on and don’t bring any others with them. They leave the tackle box at home!

There are 3 types of Torpedos, but the colour choices are vast. First, you have the Teeny Torpedo which is perfect for light-line anglers. With the Teeny, you can expect to catch all sorts of panfish including crappie, bass, and trout. Secondly, there is the Tiny Torpedo. The Tiny Torpedo is used to haul in the largemouth and smallmouth bass. Last but not least, there is the Baby Torpedo. The creation of this size was for the large gamefish. Expect to hook into musky, northern pike, bluefish and stripers.

The Torpedo imitates a wounded baitfish kicking about on the surface of the water. Naturally, a predator sees this as an easy meal and doesn’t want it to go to waste. They greedily attack it, not giving the chance for any other fish to get “their” meal! These Torpedos can be cast quite the distance as well. They have an aerodynamic design allowing them to fly through the air and drop in the hot spots.

A bit about Heddon lures in general. James Heddon is widely accepted as the creator of the artificial fishing lure. The Heddon company, the first of it’s kind opened in Michigan many years ago. Heddon lures are known to be sturdy and deadly in the waters. They always attract the fish and keep them on the line. Additionally, in the lure assortment of antique fishing lure collectors, you will be hard pressed not to find several Heddon lures in the mix.

The quality hasn’t declined a bit over the years with the Heddon brand of lures. In addition to the Heddon Torpedo Lure Series, there is the Heddon Spook Series of lures available on the market that are being fished today, as well as being added to lure collectors bragging boxes.

Among the collection of the Heddon Spook series of lures you have the Heddon Wounded Zara Spook, the Heddon Zara Spook, the Heddon SwayBack Spook, the Heddon Super Spook, the Heddon Magnum Spook, the Heddon Super Magnum Spook, the Heddon Rattlin’ Spook and the Heddon One Knocker Spook.
